Resources & Funding

The Research Development Office supports the research of Columbia faculty and students in the social sciences. We were established to generate external and institutional support for your research and serve as the liaison between Columbia University's Sponsored Projects Administration and the social science departments.

Funding Opportunities

Pre-Award Processing

  • Applying for a Grant - if you are interested in applying for a grant, read this page to understand the basic steps involved. 
  • NSF Submissions - this space will have upcoming deadling information, and has information specific for NSF submissions. 
  • NSF Templates - sample templates to ensure you have all the required information
  • Statistical consulting - ISERP offers statistical consulting to Columbia faculty and students who are engaged in social science and public policy research.
  • Student Submissions - information for doctoral students interested in applying for grants housed at the university

Post-Award Finance

  • Receiving an Award - Upon receipt of a notice of award, Sponsored Projects will forward the NOA to ISERP for set up. Please use these instructions to manage your award.
  • Quarterly Reports - The PI's review of awards must now be documented on a quarterly basis. Information about these reports.

  • Computing Resources - Columbia University has a large selection of computing resources available to researchers. This page highlights resources available to ISERP affiliates. 
  • IRB - Columbia's human research protection office - the institutional review board. 
  • Library Data Management Resources - Information for all disciplines on data management practices
  • Sample Project Description - Professor David Stark has posted some sample project descriptions and the narrative of his Guggenheim proposal for the benefit of graduate students and early career professors.
